Try Out Day - June 25th

On Saturday, June 25th the Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat Club along with the Gibson's Paddle Club and Alpha Adventures gathered at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park to offer anyone who wanted to try out some water sport equipment the opportunity to try standUp paddling, kayaking, outrigger canoeing and dragon boating. Although it was chilly and the rain clouds kept circling and dumping rain on us we had a great time take several lots of would-be paddlers for a ride. We even introduced each group to racing by practicing our race starts.

The MacKenzie Cup Challenge

All members of the Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat Club and members of the Pender Harbour Dragontinis are invited to participate in the 3rd Annual MacKenzie Cup Challenge on July 16th. This event will be held at the MacKenzie Marina on Saturday July 16th from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm. All participants will be assigned to a team and, depending on how many teams we have, each team will have 2 or more 250 meter races. Each team will race against all other teams and in all of the boats. There will also be an obstacle course race. The winner of the cup will be determined by cumulative time. The Sunshine Dragons Abreast Team will be holding a silent auction fundraiser as well as selling muffins, scones, drinks etc. Plan to save this date and come and join the fun. This is a great way to introduce your team members who have never participated in a regatta to dragon boat racing.

Paddling with the Dragontinis

On Sunday, June 5th five paddlers from the Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat Club went to Garden Bay and joined the Dragontinis Team for their regular Sunday afternoon paddle. Rudy Van Egdom, as steersman for both the Sea Gals Team and the Dragontinis, did a great job of leading the tour around Pender Harbour. Darlene Kerfoot & husband Dale shadowed us in their sailboat to make sure we behaved ourselves - thank you for taking the pictures Darlene. After a great paddle we visited the Grasshopper Pub and enjoyed the view, good company and some much needed liquid refreshment. Thank you Dragontinis for making us feel so welcomed.
